Gestural Exercises, Excursions into the Visual Cortex, and Design

A gestural activation of position, reciprocal placement and flow puts the form-giver
into a fundamentally different relation to formgiving or ‘gestaltung’ than the ones we
have become accustomed to in the writings of Jan Tschichold and Stanley Morrison, to
name just the most prominent, and it surrounds geometrical-mathematical algorithms
of typographic formatting with a text-existential and humanistic ground beyond
strictly operational (readability / legibility), formal (balance) and gestalt principles.
The goal of the making, is not just asymmetric balance, or a strictly rhythmic
dynamism, but a gestural vitality and force.
